I worked for a number of years at a curriculum development company. We created a series of software curricula where the student was a new hire at a technology company. The story progressed where you met with the boss, received emails, received information in many forms, and worked on a project in a wide range of subjects such as robotics, game development, music video production, cartoon animation, landscape design, and more. I was responsible for graphics, programming, tutorial videos and documents, and occasional writing, as well as tech support for customers. The engine running the curricula has been revamped since I worked on it, but much of the core content is still the same.
Our most successful curriculum. For this, I learned programming to a level I could teach it as well as 3D game design using DarkBASIC.
Back to topThis curriculum originally used Adobe Flash and Actionscript to make a web game. They've since updated it.
Back to topI recorded footage of a band performing and used that footage to create a number of music videos and marketing material for the band. There were a couple of different versions teaching how to use different video editing software.
Back to topThis curriculum taught students how to create an animated cartoon using Adobe Flash, now Animate. It was one of my favorites because I got to do a lot of research and create study materials from it.
Back to topWe used a robot called the ASM-II which looks a little bit like a Roomba to teach the learner how to write a program to allow the robot to move and detect objects.
Back to topThere were a couple of versions of this curriculum using either fischertechnik or the LEGO Mindstorms kit, allowing the students to build machines with motors and sensors, and to program those machines.
Back to topThis was an in-depth course involving everything from agricultural science to making landscaping in 3D and writing up cost sheets for the job.
Back to topA paired-down version of the horticulture curriculum.
Back to topThis curriculum used home design software to allow the learner to build their own structures in accordance with green industry standards.
Back to topOne of the last curricula I worked on, this one focused on tracking accounting information to discover who was embezzling from the simulated company.
